Women’s Merino Wool Base Layers

What is the difference between Eivy’s printed and ribbed Merino wool base layers?
Our printed Merino wool base layers are made using a Core Spun construction, combining the natural properties of Merino wool with added durability and stretch.

Our ribbed Merino wool base layers are made from a soft, lightweight and flexible fabric with high stretch and the naturally temperature-regulating and moisture-wicking properties of wool.

Do Merino wool base layers itch?
Merino wool has finer fibers than traditional wool and therefore generally feels softer against the skin. Eivy Merino wool base layers use fine wool with a fiber diameter of 17.5–18.5 microns for a soft and comfortable feel.

Sensitivity to wool varies from person to person, but the fine fiber diameter makes Merino wool significantly softer than coarser types of wool.

Is Eivy Merino wool certified?
Our wool base layers are made using mulesing-free Merino wool from Australia and carry certifications including Woolmark®, Responsible Wool Standard and OEKO-TEX®.

Responsible Wool Standard focuses on areas including animal welfare and traceability throughout the wool supply chain, while OEKO-TEX® includes testing for harmful substances. See each product page for exact certifications and material composition.

What can I use a Merino wool base layer for?
Merino wool base layers are a versatile first layer for both cold and milder conditions. Merino wool naturally helps regulate body temperature and manage moisture, helping you stay comfortable during changing levels of activity.

This makes Merino base layers suitable for skiing, snowboarding, cross-country skiing, hiking, camping, travel, yoga and other outdoor activities.

Is Merino wool good for skiing and snowboarding?
Yes. Merino wool is a popular base-layer material for skiing and snowboarding because it combines warmth, breathability and moisture management. It helps provide warmth in colder conditions while remaining comfortable as your activity level increases.

This makes Merino wool particularly well suited as a first layer underneath ski and snowboard clothing.

What is the difference between Merino wool and synthetic base layers?
Merino wool and synthetic base layers have different strengths. Merino wool is naturally temperature-regulating, moisture-wicking and odor-resistant, while synthetic base layers are often particularly quick-drying and durable.

The best option depends on your activity, temperature and personal preference.

How should a Merino wool base layer fit?
A Merino wool base layer should feel comfortable and allow good freedom of movement. A closer fit works smoothly as a first layer underneath ski and snowboard clothing, while a more relaxed fit can be comfortable for everyday wear and lower-intensity activities.

How should I wash and care for my Merino wool base layers?
To help maintain the quality of the Merino wool, wash on a wool cycle at a maximum of 30°C using wool detergent and dry flat.

Merino wool does not always need to be washed after every wear. Airing the garment can often help freshen it up between activities.

Avoid bleach, fabric softener, tumble drying, ironing and dry cleaning. Wash inside out with similar colors.
